Connie Diane Cain Sawyer

November 11, 1948 — July 16, 2022

A remarkable, extraordinary, and magnificent wife, mother, daughter, grandmother, sister, and friend, Connie Diane Cain Sawyer, 73, gained her angel wings on Saturday, July 16, 2022.

Born on November 11, 1948, Connie was the daughter of the late Tommy H. Cain and Eleanor Cain (surviving) of Tampa, Florida. She was born in Florence, South Carolina, but spent her childhood throughout the United States as a child of a U.S. Navy Veteran. Connie was a 1967 graduate of Deep Creek High School in Chesapeake, Virginia where she met her high school sweetheart and future husband, Billy L. Sawyer. They married shortly after graduation in 1967 and enjoyed 55 beautiful years of marriage together. As a devoted and supportive military wife, Connie raised their two children, Carolyn and Douglas, all across the United States. Despite frequent moves, Connie left a lasting mark on each person and community that she touched. These communities included those of Chesapeake, Virginia; Coronado, California; Jacksonville, Florida; Poway, California; Middleburg, Florida; Jennings, Louisiana; and finally settling into retirement in Fort Valley, Georgia.

Connie wore many hats throughout her life, but she was most proud of completing her nursing degree in 1980 at Florida Community College and working as a Registered Nurse in Florida, California, and Louisiana. She went on to own and operate several small businesses that showcased her creative talents for party planning, decorating, sewing, and crafting. Connie will be remembered for the many family gatherings and celebrations that she orchestrated for children, grandchildren, and extended families. She knew how to throw a party, and her radiant laugh and smile will be remembered forever.

Connie was preceded in death by her beloved father, Tommy H. Cain; sister-in-law, Brenda Wilkins (Tommy Wilkins); and brother-in-law, Edwin Willman. Connie lives on through her husband, Billy L. Sawyer; son, Douglas Sawyer (Erin) of Warner Robins, Georgia; daughter, Carolyn Sawyer Conway of Fort Valley, Georgia; grandchildren, Kevin Conway, Elizabeth Glass, Adam Conway, Joshua Sawyer, and George Conway; mother, Elanor Cain of Tampa, Florida; sisters, Linda Willman and Deborah Rockwell (Steve); sister-in-law, Bonnie Hinson (Chuck); brother-in-law, Bobby Sawyer (Delma); numerous nieces and nephews, and a host of extended family members and friends.
