A highly decorated Army veteran, Eric Lee Williams, Sr., passed away unexpectedly on the morning of Saturday, June 12, 2021, in Atlanta, Georgia. He was 42 years old.
Born on September 14, 1978, in Thomasville, Georgia, Eric was the son of Christopher Lee Fleming, Sr. and Sylvia Jean Williams Fleming. He graduated from Thomas County Central High School in Thomasville, Georgia, before pursuing his Bachelor’s in Criminal Justice and earning his Master’s in Mental Health Counseling at Fort Valley State University.
Enlisting in the United States Army, Eric completed the Officer’s Candidate School in Seattle, Washington, before serving in many dangerous locations including Iraq for seven years. He carried out duties during the Persian Gulf War and supported military operations overseas during Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom in response to the attacks on September 11, 2001. He courageously earned several medals and ribbons, the Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, Air Force Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal with a Campaign Star, Army Service Ribbon and two Overseas Service Ribbons. After active duty, he continued his service to the United States of America by joining the Army National Guard for eight years and serving as a civilian.
Always striving to do his best, Eric instilled that same drive in his children. He had plans to continue his long list of accomplishments by starting a trucking company to transport objects in the Southeast regions. He also wished to travel the country with his wife.
In Eric’s spare time, he enjoyed playing and watching football. His favorite teams were the Atlanta Hawks, Atlanta Falcons, and the University of Georgia, “Go Dawgs!”
