From A Daughter’s Perspective:
There once was a little girl born in Vancleave, Mississippi. She was #10 out of 11 children & was the baby girl. That little girl fell in love with a country boy from Leroy, Alabama, Hilton. Together, their love brought me into this world.
I was blessed to have "that" childhood that everyone desires. Our home was FULL of unconditional love, lots & lots of laughter, structure, & the sweetest of harmony. As I grew older, I noticed the unrelenting sacrifices my parents made for me; each one duly noted. My parents were the epitome of selflessness.
The GREATEST honor of my life has been taking care of my parents for the past 10 years. (My precious daddy gained his angel’s wings almost 7 years ago.) As my parents used to tell me, I also told them, "When it comes to love, you don't count the cost."
I guess it’s traditional to list one’s accolades, accomplishments, and occupations at a time like this. But, honestly, none of that is eternal. It all got left behind. The priceless, eternal gift my mama gave me was her relentless demonstration of faith, integrity, and character. I had an upbringing of consistency, devotion, and boundaries. She led me to Jesus when I was 8 years old as we sat underneath my pink canopy bed; she gave me life twice! She was my Rock of Gibraltar and my real-life example of a classy lady. She did not settle for anything less than excellence in everything she did. She was a GIVER-EXTRAORDINAIRE!!! She was everyone’s favorite! When my mama loved you, it changed you. I am one who bears witness to this life-breathing love. God, how did I get to be so blessed to be the daughter of such giants?! I’m not sure, but I AM ETERNALLY GRATEFUL!!!!! Mama & daddy, I will spend the rest of my life paying it forward - just like you taught me.
Mama, I’m sure daddy was the first one to meet you at the Pearly Gates to carry you across the threshold! I can only imagine how sweet that reunion was! He has been waiting for you a long time. It brings me unspeakable JOY that you are both healed, whole, & side by side for the rest of always. (Save a seat for me beside you!)
To my darling, beautiful mama, and my best friend, ”I love you forever. I like you for always. As long as I'm living, My HERO you'll be…"
Until I see you again, precious angel… Toni (AKA - “Your Baby Girl”)
