Adriana Elisabeth (van der Waerden) Kazmierski, 98, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 29, 2024, at The Oaks Nursing Home in Marshallville, GA where she was a resident since June 2017. She was born June 16, 1925, to Henri Ludivicus and Cornelia (de Bont) van der Waerden in Amsterdam, Netherlands. Her family had a shoe repair business. She was trained as a furrier and seamstress as a young adult. After marrying Wladyslaw Kazmierski and having three children, they emigrated to the U.S. in 1956 and settled in Cleveland, Ohio. There, they welcomed their fourth child. After retirement Adriana and Walter moved to Centerville Georgia in 1999.
Adriana had a host of interesting jobs and accomplishments. Not only was she a homemaker, she also was a housekeeper, retail salesperson, GE factory worker, clerk for the Montessori Foundation, realtor, seamstress and knitter. Because she loved math, her favorite job was being a tax preparer for H&R Block. In her free time, she loved organizing, puzzles, and watching soap operas. After her husband passed Adriana enjoyed the Senior Activities in Centerville and Warner Robins, the Golden Hearts at Sacred Heart and stuffing bulletins at the church. Adriana will be deeply missed.
In addition to her parents, Adriana was preceded in death by her husband, Wladyslaw (Walter) Kazmierski and her sisters, Elisabeth Pouw and Cornelia Sehlhoff.
Her memory will forever be treasured by her children, Albina Schapel (William), Elisabeth Schultz (Stephen), Stefan Kazmierski (Peggy), Mark Kazmierski (Charlotte); Grandchildren David Schapel (Mary Anna), Joseph Schapel (Jennifer), Sarah Draper (Travis), Peter Willis, Alexandra Kazmierski, Nicholas Kazmierski, Amanda White (Scott), and Kady Hlad (Matthew); great-grandchildren, Cruz, Sophia, Ryan, Addison, Evan, Melanie, Tessa, and Benjamin.
Visitation will be Friday, June 7, 2024, from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. A funeral service will immediately follow at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home with Monsignor Fred Nijem officiating. Afterward, Adriana will be laid to rest in Parkway Memorial Gardens.
