Alan “AJ” Sowers, beloved husband, father, brother, and grandfather, departed from this world on June 6, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of love and cherished memories. He was born on December 18, 1956, in Ames, Iowa, to Gerald and Colleen Sowers.

Following his graduation from high school, he enlisted in the United States Air Force, where he served in Desert Storm and later retired as a Tech Sergeant.   AJ became a dedicated advocate for the Warfighters, pouring his passion into supporting them throughout his tenure at the DoD International AIMS Program Office for a decade. Rejecting the notion of "that's the way it's always been done," he approached challenges with an indomitable positive attitude, sheer grit, and unwavering patience. His ability to navigate the toughest of tasks made him a sought-after teammate, and his absence will be keenly felt across the many teams he graced with his presence.  He concluded his career as a Senior Test Engineer at KBR, where his expertise and dedication left a mark on the organization.

Alan found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He had a knack for the culinary arts and took delight in preparing delicious meals for his loved ones. His adventurous spirit led him to the open road, where he found solace and excitement on his beloved motorcycle.

Alan's life was defined by the love and devotion he shared with his family. He was the devoted husband of Chong Sowers for 31 years, and together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and cherished moments. Alan was a proud father to his sons, Daniel, David, Kevin, Kenin, and Kurt, whose lives were enriched by his guidance and affection. He was also a loving son to Colleen Sowers and a supportive brother to Melvin Sowers.

In addition to his immediate family, Alan leaves behind a legacy carried on by his three beautiful grandchildren, who were the light of his life and the source of endless joy.
