Alphonse ''Johnny'' Leclair

January 29, 1923 — May 31, 2004

Johnny Leclair, 81, passed away on Monday, May 31, 2004 at Houston Medical Center. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 4, at Andersonville National Cemetery with Full Military Honors. Visitation will be Thursday, June 3 from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations be made to the POW/MIA Memorial Fund, c/o VFW Memorial Post 6605, 1101 Corder Road, Warner Robins 31088.

Born in Lowell, Massachusetts, Mr. Leclair proudly served for 23 years in the United States Army as Master Sergeant and Platoon Leader. He was a WWII and Korean War Veteran. While serving in WWII he was a POW and MIA. He was an ROTC instructor at both the University of Florida and the University of Mississippi. Known as the most decorated veteran in Houston County, he earned two Purple Hearts, two bronze stars, Army Commendation, two Presidential Citations, a Silver Star for Combat Infantry, ETO Ribbon, Korean Service Ribbon, two Victory ribbons, a Good Conduct Medal, and was recognized as being an expert infantry sharpshooter of the 81 mm mortar. Mr. Leclair was a lifetime member of the VFW Post 6605. Preceding him in death are, wife, Betty Jean; and parents, Alphonse and Mary Leclair.

Survivors include, son, Ronnie Leclair, Warner Robins; daughter, Kay Thomas; seven brothers; one sister; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
