Ami, of house Hufflepuff, received her letter to Hogwarts and left us mere muggles behind on August 20, 2022 at 1:11am. Born on September 21, 1973 to Caroline “Carol” Axson Phillips Grimsley and John Arthur Grimsley, Ami grew up in Jones County, Georgia, where she was a member of Elam Baptist Church. She graduated from JCHS c/o 1991, where she was Captain of the Flags Team. She is a veteran of the United States Air Force, stationed at RAF Mildenhall. Following the military, she graduated from Cleveland Community College in Shelby, NC, and thrived in a career of software programming, where she excelled at every task. Ami was a gifted linguist of spoken and digital words. She enjoyed a lifetime of reading and lived many extraordinary lives through every story. She was a skilled author whose books will be published posthumously.
Left to one day join her at Hogwarts are her wife, Lauri Chancellor-Phillips; children, Derek Shroyer and Alaura Shroyer (Tim), who is mother to Ami’s grandson, Benjamin “Ben Franklin” Key; mother, Caroline Freeman (David); father, John Grimsley (Daphne); “Daddy,” Jimmy Arnold (Kate); mother- and father-in-law, Mildred and James R. Chancellor; grandmother, Catherine Arnold (Jonah); sister, Sally Arnold (Patrick) who is mother to Ami’s nieces and nephews, Morgan, Jonah, and Jaxson Round, and Isaac Narh-Martey; brother- and sister-in-law, Russell Chancellor and Teresa Dekle (Dale) who is mother to niece and nephew Brittni Brown (Chris) and Taylor Dekle (Ellen); and many extended family whom she loved dearly. An advocate for the rights of humans and cats, Ami surrounded herself with both. Ami had an extraordinary talent for making lifelong friends and leaves many to celebrate her life, including 3 exceptional ladies, Aindrea Braswell (James), Tanya Crabill (Tara), and Cheryl Parke. Welcoming her at the Sorting Ceremony are her grandparents, Caroline and James Phillips, Bill Axson (Ethel), Arthur and Zelma Grimsley, and Jonah Arnold (Catherine), as well as her stepfather, John Beaver.
A celebration of life will take place on September 24, 2022 at 1:11pm at The Farmhouse at McCullough Funeral Home in Warner Robins. Ami’s childhood pastor, John Jarrard, formerly of Elam Baptist Church, will officiate services. The family requests that happy colors, such as the colors in a peacock feather, be worn by attendees.
Ami’s favorite flowers were stargazer lilies and calla lilies; however, in lieu of flowers, donations to support the family can be made to https://gofund.me/3afb069f .
