Anita Darlene Alexander

October 31, 1958 — November 6, 2024

Bonaire

Anita Cantu Alexander, of Bonaire, Georgia, passed away peacefully on November 6, 2024. Born on October 31, 1958, in San Antonio, Texas, to the late Matthew and Vivian Cantu, Anita lived a life filled with faith, service, and love.

Anita graduated from Highlands High School in San Antonio, Texas, and dedicated over 40 years to civil service, retiring from Robins Air Force Base, Georgia. In addition to her distinguished career, Anita followed her entrepreneurial passion by founding and operating "Keeping It So Simple," a business that allowed her creative spirit to flourish through crafting.

Anita was deeply devoted to her faith and dedicated to serving the Lord and His people. A gifted singer, she found joy in gospel music and began singing at an early age at Mount Sinai Baptist Church, San Antonio, Texas, which was founded by her grandfather. She later became a faithful member of Bibb Mt. Zion Baptist Church, where she sang in the choir. Previously, at First Baptist Church Garmon Street, she led children’s praise dancers with joy and dedication. Her compassionate heart especially connected with seniors; she was always ready to lend a helping hand and a listening ear for anyone in need.

Family was central to Anita’s life. Her family was her greatest source of joy. She shared a loving marriage with her husband, Bing Alexander, for more than 30 years. She is lovingly remembered by her children, Cheryl Stewart (Leland), Daron Alexander, Darla Alexander, and Johnathan Alexander; her grandchildren, Victoria Alexander, Jasmyne Hyatt, Desirae Alexander, Bitia Stewart, Micah Stewart, Derek Hogan, and Dwayne Wingfield; and her great-grandchildren, Anaiah Mason, Jayde Johns, Taylor Hyatt, and Trae Hyatt. Anita is also survived by her siblings, Michael Langford, Cynthia Jones, and Adrian Cantu, along with many extended family members and friends.

Anita is preceded in death by her parents, Matthew and Vivian Cantu, and her granddaughter, Sara Alexander. Her kindness, love, and generosity will be deeply missed by all who were blessed to know her.

A funeral service will be held at Bibb Mt. Zion Baptist Church at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, November 15, 2024. Anita will then be laid to rest at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
