Ann Walker Pierce of Perry, GA was called home on October 10, 2024. Ann was a member of Joy Sunday School Class at First Baptist in Perry. Ann was born November 5, 1941, to James T. and H. Hortense Walker in McRae Georgia. In September 1942, her father accepted a job at Robins Air Force Based and moved the family to Macon. At age 7, Ann made her profession of faith and was baptized at Avondale Baptist Church in Macon. Ann graduated from McEvoy High School in Macon, where she competed in the American Legion Oratorical Contest on the U.S. Constitution, proudly representing her school in the county competition.
Ann married William F. (Bill) Pierce of Macon GA in 1964. She and Bill served as youth leaders at Avondale Baptist Church. Upon moving to South Carolina, Ann and Bill became active in Shandon Baptist Church in Columbia, SC. Bill was active in the Breakfast Optimist Club in Columbia.
Ann’s education included a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Mercer University, a Master’s degree in Library Science from the University of South Carolina and a Master’s of Divinity from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky. Ann’s work included being a schoolteacher at Robins Air Force base, a computer programmer and Education Guidance Counselor at Fort Jackson, S.C., a Methodist “circuit preacher” for a group of small churches in south GA and a Librarian at both Fort Benning, Georgia and at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center in Brunswick, Georgia.
In 1975, sensing a need for spiritual guidance, Ann was referred to Dr. Paul Batson, who was the Pastor of Marion Baptist Church, Marion, SC. For a number of years, Ann consulted Dr. Batson, who faithfully guided her through a number of decisions, including accepting God’s call to ministry.
Ann often described herself as being passionately interested in books and libraries, working with military and law enforcement officers, learning and teaching, the proper role of Christians in the political process, and Macon history (especially concerning Cochran Field which gave her some of her fondest childhood memories).
Predeceasing Ann were her parents James T. and H. Hortense Walker and her husband Bill Pierce. She is survived by a sister Ellen Vivet of Savigny-en-Sancerre, France, brother Jimmy Walker (Dianne) of Marianna FL, nephew Nick Walker (Jordan Noelle) of Tallahassee FL, great niece Mackenzie Mary Walker and great nephew Caleb Christopher James Walker.
