Anthony W. Douglas

April 20, 1942 — January 8, 2020

Anthony Douglas, a brave Vietnam War veteran, passed away on Wednesday, January 8, 2020, at Houston Medical Center. He was 77 years old. The son of the late Charles and Mary Douglas, Anthony was born in Astoria, New York. As a teenager, he joined the United States Marine Corps and served his country as a radio operator. He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal. After his time in the military he worked at Johnson and Johnson as a forklift operator in New Brunswick, New Jersey, before changing careers and working long hours at Anchor Glass as a carton technician. Anthony retired from work in 2009 at the age of 65.

Even though he worked hard, Anthony always put his family first. He never missed a single one of his children’s or grandchildren’s practices, events, or games. Anthony wasn’t exactly a “Mr. Fix It” instead he was actually known as “Mr. Break It” and he will not be remembered as being a great driver...but he was extremely laid back and an all-around great guy. He enjoyed watching sports, especially football and baseball. Anthony was a fan of the original Brooklyn Dodgers and later became a huge fan of Notre Dame, as well. He also enjoyed listening to opera music. A man with a great personality and a huge heart has left this life but not before leaving an enormous impact on the lives around him. He will be greatly missed.

His memory will forever be treasured by his loving wife of 54 years, Irene Douglas; children, Anthony Douglas, Bryan Douglas (Rhonda), Noreen Scott (Jason), Michael Douglas; grandchildren, Anthony, Allison, Angela, Andrea, Erick, and Melissa Douglas; Rachel, Jonathan, Dakota, Dale, and Michaela Scott, Chase, Natalie, and Kinsleigh Douglas; seven great-grandchildren; sister, Arlene Contino; and several extended family members in New York, Pennsylvania, and Florida.

A memorial gathering will be Sunday, January 12, 2020, from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. A memorial service celebrating the life of Mr. Douglas will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, January 13, 2020, in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home with military honors being rendered.

McCullough Funeral Home and Crematory has the privilege of being entrusted with these arrangements.
