Antonio (Tony) Moreno, a proud patriot and gentle soul, departed this world on September 28, 2024, in Warner Robins, Georgia, leaving behind a legacy of love, ingenuity, and unwavering dedication to his country. Born on January 14, 1941, in Brownsville, Texas, Tony embodied the spirit of resilience and compassion throughout his life.
An Army veteran who served valiantly in the Vietnam War, Tony carried the weight of duty with grace. His commitment to service didn't end with his military enlistment; it blossomed into a longtime government career ending with the Army Corps of Engineers as an Engineering Technician. He played a pivotal role in transformative projects, from designing the ball at the top of the 370 foot UT Tower at Austin, TX, the sprawling landscapes of Lake Okeechobee in Florida, to the rugged fortifications at Fort Richardson in Alaska and Fort Sam in San Antonio. His inventive mind was matched only by his pride in his work.
Tony was a collector of life’s little treasures, a restorer of broken things, and a maker of beautiful jewelry. He had an innate ability to mend not only jewelry but also relationships. After years apart, he joyously reunited with his daughter, eager to reconnect and build a bridge of love that would last a lifetime.
For over 36 wonderful years, Tony shared his life with his beloved wife, Gail, embracing her two children demonstrating that family is not just about blood, but about the bonds we choose to forge.
Tony was preceded in death by his parents, Francisco and Adelina Moreno; siblings, Olga Moreno, Francisco Moreno, and Carmen M. Barrientos; sister-in-law, Ana Moreno; and brothers-in-law, Steve Roberts and Hugo Gaytan.
His memory will forever be treasured by his wife, Gail; daughter, Lara Margaret Moreno Aufderheide (Steve) of Anchorage, Alaska; stepchildren, Charles G. Rowe (Patti) of Nicholasville, Kentucky and Renee Rowe (Paul Smith) of Warner Robins, Georgia; grandchildren, Taylor J. McKinney, Jordan R. McKinney (Aslynne), Jesse M.
