Arthur H. Clarke, Sr., age 91, died peacefully at his home in Bonaire, Georgia, on May 17, 2010. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 20, 2010, at the First United Methodist Church on North Davis Drive, Warner Robins, Georgia, at 11 A.M., with Dr. Jimmy Asbell and Reverend Missy Blumenthal officiating. Burial will follow at Magnolia Park Cemetery, Warner Robins, Georgia.
Visitation will be held at McCullough Funeral Home, South Houston Lake Road,
Warner Robins, Georgia, from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. on May 19, 2010. The family may be contacted at the home of Arthur Clarke, Jr., Two Pinebloom Drive, Bonaire, Georgia.
He is survived by his wife of seventy years, Nora Ritchie Clarke. They were married
on September 10, 1939 in Blakely, Georgia. He is also survived by his son, Arthur H. Clarke, Jr. and wife Nancy; grandson, Michael L. Clarke and his wife Suzanne; his granddaughter, Leigh Ann Clarke Woodyard and her husband Krag; great grandchildren, Ashley and Kristen Clarke; Ryan, Tyler, Rachel, and Trevor Woodyard, all of Bonaire, Georgia.
He was predeceased by his son, Robert Ritchie Clarke, who died on May 30, 1984.
He was also predeceased by his parents, Henry Duke Clarke, Jr. and Carra Bruner Clarke, as well as his sisters, Mae Clarke Coppinger, Sue Clarke Cleveland, Bernice Clarke (Thomas) Loyless, Mildred Clarke Monroe, Mattie Clarke (Phelps) Vandiver and Virginia Clarke Eason, together with his brothers, Roy E. Clarke and Curtis Frazier Clarke.
He was retired from Civil Service at Robins Air Force Base and was an active member of First United Methodist Church of Warner Robins, having joined soon after moving his family to Warner Robins in 1951. He was a Freemason for more than sixty-five years, a member of Tyrian Lodge No. 111 and a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason. He was a long time member of the Warner Robins Optimist Club where he served as Club President and also served as regional Lieutenant Governor.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to The Masonic Children's Home, 811 Mulberry Street, Macon, Ga. 31201, or to the Methodist Home For Children and Youth, 304 Pierce Ave., Macon, Ga. 31204, or Heart of Georgia Hospice, 103 Westridge Dr. Warner Robins, Ga., 31088.
