Rev. Arver Lloyd Britt
Lloyd was born in Turner County, Georgia on August 20, 1934, to Ada (Loyd) and Arver Britt. He was the youngest of 7 children, raised on a family farm. When he went home to heaven, he completed the circle. He was ready to see Jesus, and his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Judy; children, Angie Joiner, Shannon Britt (Tami), and Michael Britt (Drew); four grandchildren (1 deceased), 9 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Lloyd was ordained as a Southern Baptist Pastor and was pastor at Hammonds Baptist Church (1968-1973) and North Thompson Baptist Church (1973-1978). He served as a fill in preacher and conducted weddings and funerals until his health declined. That didn’t stop him from asking people to come to church (First Baptist Church Centerville since June 8, 1986) and our Sherrill Stafford Shining Lights Sunday School Class. While in the hospital, everyone knew who Lloyd called on by his calling “I love You Jesus, Thank You” and “Lord help me.”
Lloyd started working at Robins AFB in 1952 and retired 41 years later in 1993 as a GS-12. He worked in several areas at the base and traveled both in the U.S. and abroad. He enjoyed his work, but was happy to retire and spend time with Michael, helping with school projects and driving the “equipment truck” for the band at Warner Robins Middle School. This was a privilege that he wasn’t able to do with Angie and Shannon due to work.
In November of 1981, Lloyd joined the Centerville Lions Club and was honored with Lifetime membership by the club in 2022. He served in all the offices of the club, including the unofficial Chaplain leading in prayer, and reading the Christmas Story at Christmas. He served two District Governors as Cabinet Secretary. For two years, he received the “Best Secretary in Georgia” award. He was named “Lion of the Year” four times, received the Tom Bingman Award (work with the Georgia Lions Lighthouse), District 18O Hall of Fame, and a Century Club Member for the Georgia Lions Camp. He was honored with a progressive Melvin Jones Fellowship award for his work with the club, district, and state.
After Lloyd moved back to Warner Robins, he started bowling at Freedom Lanes (now Gold Cup Bowling Center) on an adult/youth league. This led to a lot of bowling, fellowship, and administrative duties.
He was on the Warner Robins Bowling Association Board (1982-2003) and later on the Middle Georgia Board (2004-2022). During this time, he served as a Director or Association Manager. Awards include Member of the Year (1986 & 1996), Director of the Year (2008), Above and Beyond Award (2012), Duke Award (2023), Hall of Fame (1994) and Life Member (1994). He was President or Secretary/Treasurer for several leagues over the years and bowled in a large number of tournaments. One of the greatest joys he had was working with the youth in giving them guidance in bowling and showing them love.
Lloyd became a Director on the Georgia State Bowling Association, and later served as President for 12 years. He bowled in state tournaments and helped run some of them. He received the Georgia BA Meritorious Service Award in 2006, and was inducted in the Georgia Bowling Association Hall of Fame the same year. Lloyd served on the Georgia Bowling Council for 23 years.
Lloyd became involved in the administrative side of the Southeastern Bowling Congress (now Southeast Bowling Association) in 1986. He started as a delegate and later served as President for 2 years. He was inducted into the Southeast Hall of Fame in 2013.
He was a director on the Georgia State Bowling Youth Board. He received the Coach of the Year Award in 2010, and was inducted in the Hall of Fame in 2017.
Lloyd volunteered and bowled in Georgia Games and Georgia Golden Olympics. He bowled in 18 ABC/USBC National Bowling Tournaments. Lloyd enjoyed working in the Election process as a poll worker and later as a manager. The people he met in the bowling community, Lions club, elections and church were like a second family and when they were together, it was like a family reunion.
Lloyd led a full and productive life helping and caring for others and he will be missed, but we will see him again.
Lloyd loved flowers, but he also loved the First Baptist Church Centerville (P O Box 440, Centerville, GA 31028) and the Centerville Lions Club (PO Box 464, Centerville, GA 31028). Your choice.
Thank you for all the thoughts and prayers sent our way.
