Augustus Eugene "Gene" Stallworth, Sr., 88, entered into rest on Tuesday, December 29, 2009.
Mr. Stallworth was born on May 8, 1921, in Macon. With pride and honor, he served his country in the United States Army, participating in World War II with the 501st Army Parachute Battalion in the Pacific. He later retired from civil service, where he worked as an aviation mechanic. His was a long-time member of First Baptist Church of Centerville and member of the Men's Sunday School Class. He was preceded in death by his parents, Amos Stallworth and Mary Holloway Stallworth; and brothers, Clarence, Wylie, Kenneth and Julian Stallworth.
His memory will forever be treasured by his loving wife of forty-three years, Mildred "Millie" Stallworth; children, A. E. "Gus" (Connie) Stallworth, Jr., Charles H. (Linda) Stallworth, both Atlanta, Deloris (Jack) Durden, Macon, Donna (Euart) Ethridge, St. Augustine, Florida; step-children, Terry (Susie) Lee, Gresham, South Carolina, Connie Glisson, Columbia, South Carolina, and Dale Lee, Byron; sisters, JoAnn Wellborn and Betty Sullivan, both Warner Robins; eighteen grandchildren; twenty-seven great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Wednesday, December 30, 2009, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 31, 2009, in First Baptist Church of Centerville, Dr. Allen Hughes and Dr. Ray Gentry officiating. Interment will follow in Glen Haven Memorial Gardens.
