Azalee Bridges Johnson, 83, passed away on Saturday, August 12, 2006. Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 17, at First Baptist Church in Washington, Georgia with interment following in Rest Haven Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Hopkins Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to either of the following: First Baptist Church (Building Fund) 105 W. Mrs. Johnson was born on September 5, 1922 in Oglethorpe County, Georgia. Azalee was one of fifteen children born to the late Marshall Thomas Bridges and Gussie Hamm Fortson Bridges. She was a homemaker and dedicated most of her life to meeting the needs of her family, neighbors and church. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Washington, Georgia where she taught Sunday School for over fifty years and sang in the choir. She enjoyed gardening, quilting, and traveling.
Survivors include her husband, Leonard “Pete” Johnson, Warner Robins; children, Mike Johnson, Panama City Beach, FL; Miriam McEver (Gil), Bonaire; Len Johnson (Teresa), Augusta; grandchildren, Deadra Johnson (Mike), Panama City Beach, FL; Amy Herron (Spencer), Acworth; Ashley Griffin (Meredith), Macon; Katy McEver, Atlanta; six great-grandchildren, sisters, Virginia Hammond, Zion, IL; Laura Bridges, Doraville, Elree Worley, Canton; Dot Cecchini, Elberton; Jean Woolard, Roswell; brother, Simon Bridges, Washington; and many nieces and nephews.
