Renowned Warner Robins pharmacist, Auburn man, and Northside Eagles fan, Banks Brazell, Sr., went Home to Jesus on the afternoon of Saturday, April 15, 2023, at the age of 90. We are profoundly sad that he’s gone but are glad that he’s Home with the Lord.
Banks was born in Tallassee, Alabama, on September 21, 1932 to the late James Leonard and Ella Mae Kee Brazell and was a long-time member and deacon at Pleasant Hill Primitive Baptist Church.
He attended Auburn (API) in Pharmacy and completed Army ROTC. Commissioned in 1954 as a 2Lt he served his country in Germany during the Korean Conflict. After his commitment, he worked as a pharmacist in LaGrange, GA and in Kinston, NC, before moving to Warner Robins and opening Boulevard Pharmacy in partnership with his brother, Hugh Brazell. Banks had Boulevard Pharmacy from 1960 until 1994, when he merged with Revco which later merged with CVS, where he worked until retirement in 2014. Overall, his pharmacy career spanned 60 years, 54 of them in Warner Robins.
Banks was dedicated to his profession, with many of his customers becoming lifelong friends. But beyond that, Banks was a dedicated and loving husband to Doll, a good father to his children, a proud grandfather and great grandfather and a good friend to many in the community. Banks was a well-known “True Blue” supporter of the Auburn Tigers (War Eagle!) and the Northside Eagles. Many NHS fans may remember his “mad hatter” Northside top hat he wore to games. He was a solid supporter of the NHS Booster Club and a past club President. A long-term member of the Warner Robins Rotary Club, he had year after year perfect attendance awards. He also gave gallons of blood to the American Red Cross, accumulating an impressive row of blood drop pins. As a sportsman, he was an great bass fisherman, with a personal best largemouth of 8 ½ pounds, and an avid dove shooter.
He leaves behind his loving wife of 70 years, Doll Brazell, of Warner Robins; children, Banks, Jr. (Kendra) of Canton, James “Jimmy”, Sr. (Cecelia) of Kathleen, and Patti Stogner (Patrick) of Warner Robins; grandchildren, James Taylor Brazell III (Jaime), Kyle Brazell, Eric Brazell (Rachael), Michael Brazell, and Daniel Brazell (Lauren); great-grandchildren, Jacob, Judah, and Jonathan Brazell; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by grandsons James Taylor Brazell, Jr and Kenneth Banks Brazell.
A memorial service celebrating Banks’ life will take place at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 22, 2023, at Central Baptist Church. He will be laid to rest in Magnolia Park Cemetery with a private committal service for his family.
Memorial donations may be given in memory of Banks to the Rotary Foundation, https://www.rotary.org/en/donate or to the Northside High School Booster Club, Attn: Ben Bailey, 926 Green St., Warner Robins, GA 31093.
