Barbara Gorman Brantley, 78, entered into rest on Friday, March 14, 2025.
Barbara was born on September 6, 1946, in Paragould, Arkansas, to the late Chester S. Gorman and Thelma Laverne Hopper Gorman. Her life revolved around an unwavering love for children, a passion that shaped both her career and personal life. She dedicated 47 years to caring for little ones in the church nurseries of Perry First Baptist and Shirley Hills Baptist. In addition, she provided in-home daycare for many years, creating a nurturing environment for countless children. Her devotion extended beyond her home; she also volunteered as a lunchroom monitor at Lake Joy Primary School, always eager to make a difference in young lives.
Barbara had a mother’s heart, not just for her own family but for every child she encountered. She cherished her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, showering them with love and attention. She embodied the essence of a devoted homemaker, finding joy and purpose in caring for her family. Serving them wasn’t a duty, it was her calling; done selflessly and without expectation of recognition.
Fiercely independent and impeccably organized, Barbara held on to those traits as long as she could. She found great happiness in cooking, especially during the holidays, when her meals were always a highlight for those she loved. Family meant everything to her, and in addition to her kids and grandkids, she treasured the time spent with her siblings and their spouses. Whether gathering for dinner or traveling together, she nurtured those relationships throughout her life, building bonds that time could never break. Barbara’s warm countenance and gentle spirit will be deeply missed by all those who had the pleasure of knowing her.
In addition to her parents, Barbara was preceded in death by her sister, Janis Ball.
Her memory will forever be treasured by her loving husband of 59 years, Joe B. Brantley; children, Keith Brantley (Tonya) of Byron and Tambra Singletary (Gary) of Elko; grandchildren, Justin Brantley (Sarah) of Kathleen, Hillary Smith (Josh) of Murrayville, Hannah Singletary of Orlando, Florida, and Erin Brantley of Warner Robins; great-grandchildren, Cole Brantley, Perry Lou Smith, Lathan Smith, and Chase Brantley; siblings, Diann Wright (John) and David Gorman (Pam); and special family member, Molly Franklin (Allen) of Raleigh, North Carolina, along with many other loving family members and friends.
Visitation will be Wednesday, March 19, 2025, from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. A funeral service will immediately follow at 3:00 p.m. in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home. Afterward, Barbara will be laid to rest in Parkway Memorial Gardens.
