Barbara Louise Carson was born on January 1, 1933, to the late William McCoy and Annie McCoy in Baltimore, Maryland. She entered eternal rest on Thursday, June 29, 2023, at Grandview Medical Center in Birmingham, Alabama.
Barbara was known as Mrs. Carson, but most called her Grandma. She was educated in the District of Columbia Public School System. Barbara was the oldest of 7 children. She was united in Holy matrimony to Edward B. Carson on May 15, 1956. She traveled the world as a military wife until their last assignment landed them in Warner Robins, Ga in 1976. They were married for 54 years. Barbara retired from Big Apple Grocery Store after 21 years.
Barbara was an exceptional wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She loved cooking, traveling, spending time with her family and taking care of children. She cared deeply for her family and friends. Barbara was always first to offer help and ensured that every child who crossed her threshold was safe, healthy, and happy. Her legacy of faith, strength, wisdom, and advice will carry on forever.
Proceeded her in death was her late husband, Edward Carson; her daughters, Janice Horton and Pamela Carson; brothers, Ewell McCoy, Roland McCoy, Henry McCoy, Wilbert McCoy; and her two sisters, Rosanna Houser and Sarah Caroline.
Barbara leaves to cherish her fond and loving memories to her son: Tyrone Horton; five grandchildren: Eddie L. Mays Jr. (Amy), Thomas L. Carson, Berdina Hawes (Derrick), Kirsten Moore, and Jerome Griggs; Five great-grandchildren: Brittini Mays, Kristopher Carson, Jordan Carson, Isaiah Wallace, Serenity Moore, and Kaitlin Mays; one great-great grandchild Elijah Carson; two sisters-in-law; one she cherished like a daughter, Donna George; one cherished like a great grandchild, Madison Grace; a devoted niece, Barbara Ann Caroline; a devoted friend, Donna Simmons; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be Wednesday, July 5, 2023, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 6, 2023, in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home. Afterward, Barbara will be laid to rest in Parkway Memorial Gardens. A repass will be held immediately following the burial at The Farmhouse at McCullough Funeral Home.
