Bettye Erdman, beloved wife, and devoted mother of Fort Walton Beach, Florida, passed away on July 23, 2024, in Warner Robins, Georgia, at the age of 79.
Bettye was born and raised in Bagdad, Florida. She completed her high school education in Westfield, New Jersey in 1963, and later obtained a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Gettysburg College. In 1969, she married Gary L. Erdman, a Navy serviceman, and their life together took them to Japan, Hawaii, and various locations in Florida. While living in Pensacola, Hawaii, and Tallahassee, Bettye pursued her passion for education as an elementary school teacher.
Later settling in Tallahassee, Florida, to raise their family, Bettye was an active member of the Pilot Club, contributing to her community with her characteristic warmth and dedication. Her career path led her to Wyatt's Business Machines, where she eventually became a Co-owner and operator. Subsequently, Bettye served the State of Florida before retiring early to care for her beloved husband.
A woman of deep faith, Bettye was a longtime member of East Hill Baptist Church in Tallahassee, where her beautiful voice resonated through hymns and musical performances that enriched the congregation's worship. She had a passion for singing, finding joy both in musicals and in the simple melodies of her favorite hymns.
In her leisure time, Bettye found solace in the pages of a good book, the tranquility of the beach, and the soothing sounds of waves lapping against the shore.
Bettye Erdman leaves behind a legacy of love, faith, and kindness. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing her.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Gary Erdman; and parents, Horace and Gladys Baker.
