Betty Jean Jones Carter joined her Lord in Heaven on Friday, September 22, 2023. She was 89 years old.
Betty was born on September 10, 1934 in Echols County, Georgia to the late David H. Jones and Lilla Mae Strickland. She married the love of her life, Jesse Edwin Carter, in Alaska where he was serving in the Air Force. She supported his military and civil service career moves throughout Louisiana, Florida, and Georgia. They enjoyed 44 wonderful years together filled with love, friendship, and unyielding commitment to family until his death in 1997. They had four children and she dedicated herself wholeheartedly to the family. She supported their school and church activities, was a Girl Scout Leader, and a seamstress for them. She always enjoyed the family camping trips and later RVing.
Betty’s career started right out of school as a telephone operator. Over the years she advanced into the business office and was later instrumental alongside a co-worker in bringing computer technology into the Hawkinsville Telephone Company.
They were members of the Plane Promenaders Square Dance Club for many years and traveled the country to many conventions. Always holding true to her lifelong faith, she was a member of Shirley Hills Baptist Church and the Joe Haselden Sunday School Class.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Timothy Carter and son-in-law Neal McFeeters.
Her memory will forever be treasured by her children, Sherry Reeves (Jimmy), Pamela McFeeters, and Phillip Carter; grandchildren, Joseph Newman (Lisa), Matthew Reeves (Stephanie), Bradley Reeves (Becky), Melinda Bennett (Jeremy), Michael McFeeters (Amanda), Noelle Haan (Andy), Jennifer Chapman (Steve); great-grandmother to 14 great-grandchildren; sister Shirley Perry, and a host of extended family and friends.
Graveside services are Tuesday, September 26, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at Macedonia Baptist Church, 153 Macedonia Church Road, Lake Park, GA.
