Betty June Hall Upshaw was reunited with her husband of 58 years, Tom Upshaw, in Heaven on the evening of Thursday, April 1, 2021. She was 87 years old.
The daughter of the late William Harry and Edith Morris Hall, Mrs. Upshaw was born on December 4, 1933, and raised in Blandville, Kentucky. At the early age of 10, she accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior and was baptized in a large pond at Blandville Baptist Church. Even when Mrs. Upshaw traveled, she always found a place to worship and never missed church on Sunday mornings. Mrs. Upshaw graduated from Blandville High School before working at an atomic energy plant where she met the love of her life, Thomas “Tom” Patrick Upshaw. Mrs. Upshaw’s cousin, Reverend Bobbie Elliott, married them on Thanksgiving Day. The Upshaw’s ceremony was the first wedding that her cousin ever officiated and he forgot to sign the wedding license; the newlyweds had to track him back down to make it “official.”
When Mr. Upshaw enlisted in the United States Air Force, they traveled overseas to Greece and then Italy. It was the first time that Mrs. Upshaw had ever been out of Kentucky. After living in many different places, they later settled in Kathleen where she continued her education at the Technical College of Georgia and worked as a Secretary and a Bookkeeper. In her spare time, Mrs. Upshaw enjoyed gardening, baking, traveling, and showing dogs. She was a devoted member of Shirley Hills Baptist Church in Warner Robins. Mrs. Upshaw’s greatest loves were her family and her church.
In addition to her husband who passed away on May 12, 2012, and parents, Mrs. Upshaw was preceded in death by her sister, Billie Faye Amos.
Her memory will forever be treasured by her children, Deborah June Smith (William Dale) of Murray, Kentucky; Dr. Thomas Stephen Upshaw (Michelle) of Atlanta; Patrick Bryan Upshaw (Maureen) of Gainesville, Florida; grandchildren, Nathan Keller (Leslie), Ben Keller (Alex), Natalie Upshaw, Rochelle Trafton (Dave), Bryan Upshaw, Sean Upshaw, and Nicholas Upshaw; great-grandchildren, Zane and Zoe Keller, Beck and Senna Trafton, and Grayson, Avalon, and Roman Keller; and siblings, Glen Hall (Kay) and Nancy Hall Price (Neil); as well as several beloved extended family members and friends.
Visitation with Mrs. Upshaw’s family will be Wednesday, April 7, 2021, from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. The funeral service celebrating her life will immediately follow at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home with Reverend Andy Cook officiating. Following the service, Mrs. Upshaw will be laid to rest next to her husband in Magnolia Park Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully suggests memorial donations be given in memory of Betty June Hall Upshaw to the Houston County Humane Society, 810 Carl Vinson Parkway, Centerville, Georgia 31028.
