Betty Meers, 84, passed away on December 16, 2016, at the Unicoi Long Term Care in Erwin, Tennessee. Betty was born in Cadwell, GA in 1932 to the late Capers and Mary Boone. She grew up there and moved to Florida, California, and back to Georgia before settling in Erwin, Tennessee in 2003. A rare and wonderful person who lit up a room with her presence and smile, she was always capable of making people laugh. She loved to travel the world as she displayed her feistiness and zest for life. A wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend to many, Betty was a special person who was truly loved and will be missed by all who knew her. Betty always made her thoughts known, made her own rules, and managed her life in a way everyone loved.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Carden Meers; sons, John Allen Cheney and Paul Edward Cheney; sister, Myrtle Smith; brothers, Maurice, Earl and Elmer Boone; ex-husband, John Guy Cheney and loving companion for many years, Ray Johnson.
Her children, Sherry Cheney Hague; Amanda Meers, Melinda Meers, and Julie Meers; Kristy Jackson and Todd Johnson; 20 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren, sisters, Ramona Hawkins and Jean Johnson; and nieces, nephews and many many friends will forever treasure her memory.
A memorial service to celebrate Betty's life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 29, 2017 in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home. After the service, the family will receive friends at The Farmhouse behind McCullough Funeral Home.
