Bettye Sue Sutton Gifford, 75, entered into rest on Friday, February 4, 2011.
Bettye was born on April 10, 1935, in Americus, Georgia, and graduated from Americus High School in 1953. At the time of her death she had retired from a civil service career that spanned thirty-three years. She started at Robins Air Force Base in September of 1958 as a GS-02, Clerk-Typist and retired in December of 1991 as Deputy Director of the C-141 Management Directorate.
She was widowed on June 17th, 2002, when her husband, Charles Gifford passed away. She and Charlie had enjoyed almost eleven years of marriage to one another. She was grateful for this wonderful relationship and the opportunity to travel the world with Charlie after her retirement.
Her memory will forever be treasured by her loving children from her prior marriage to Marvin T. Morrow: Alex Morrow, Warner Robins, Georgia; Cyn George, Easley, South Carolina; two grandchildren, Tucker Morrow, Ft. Lauderdale, Florida; Katrina George, Easley, South Carolina; sisters, Penny Hudson, Greenville, South Carolina; Eilene Becker, Athens, Georgia; brothers, Larry Sutton, West Palm Beach, Florida; Jimmy Sutton, Woodson, Texas; and Bobby Sutton, Amarillo, Texas. Her parents, Harrison Sutton and Lilly Sutton, preceded her in death.
Bettye donated her body to the Mercer University School of Medicine. A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m., on Tuesday, February 15, 2011, in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home.
