Billie Mae Rooker

Billie Mae Rooker passed from this life on December 9, 2009, after a long illness, at the age of 82. She was born in Amarillo, Texas, February 24, 1927, and died in Okmulgee, Oklahoma.

She graduated from Oklahoma State University and received a Master's Degree in Education from East Central State College in Oklahoma.

For over sixty years, she was a teacher in Oklahoma and Georgia having taught in McLoud, Maysville, and Okemah, Oklahoma and also in Warner Robins, Georgia. After retiring from the public school system she continued to teach at a private school and at an abused women's center. She received many awards as an outstanding teacher.

Mrs. Rooker was an accomplished artist and a master of porcelain doll making and was a member of the Fine Arts Society. She was of the Methodist faith.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of fifty-two years, John R. Rooker and her parents, Lindsey and Mattie Coleman Hargrave. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Joy and Jim Watkins of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; two sons and daughters-in-law, Mark and Rosemarie Rooker of Athens, Georgia and John Randall and Lisa Rooker of Byron, Georgia; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one great, great-granddaughter; sister and brother-in-law, Carole and Bill Gatchell of Dayton, Ohio and many other relatives and good friends.

Services will be Monday, December 14, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at McCullough Funeral Home in Warner Robins. Visitation will be on Sunday, December 13, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. She will be interred beside her husband John.
