Byron resident Billy Frank McDaniel passed away after a brief illness on Monday, February 21, 2022 in Macon at the age of 83.
Born in Fitzgerald, Georgia, Billy was the son of the late Frank Lee McDaniel and Bessie Ruth Cleghorn McDaniel. He was a proud member of the Air National Guard where he served for six years. He spent 33 years in civil service at Robins Air Force Base as a Computer System Data Analyst until his retirement in 1990. Billy led the procurement of the first computer systems at RAFB. A diving instructor with the National Association of Underwater Instructors association of scuba instructors, he taught more than 2,000 students from the 1970s to 90s. He held a boating Captains license for over 40 years. Throughout his life, he also enjoyed gardening, farming, fishing, horseback riding, Paso Fino horse showmanship, and karate. As a young man, he served as a choir director and minister for Dorminy’s Mill Baptist Church in Fitzgerald.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 42 years, Sue McDermid McDaniel; daughters, Marcia M. Arrington (David) and Michelle Linder (Durand L.); grandchildren, Shannon Piper, Wesley Culver, Carly Linder, and Christian Linder; and great grandchildren, Lucus Culver and Madison Piper.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 26, 2022 at McCullough Funeral Home. His service will immediately follow visitation at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home. Pastor Mike Parker will officiate. Billy will be laid to rest at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 26, 2022 at Big Creek Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery in Rebecca, Georgia.
