Blondell F. Avery, 92, entered into rest on Saturday, January 12, 2019 in the precious care of the Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home in Spartanburg, South Carolina.
Blondell was born on November 1, 1926 in Houston County, Alabama to the late Elton and Addiree Forrester. She had six brothers and two sisters.
Grandma as known to most of us who loved her, was a beautiful, loving, strong, hard working mother and grandmother. She raised four children, Faye, Anne, Lamar, and Harold on her own after losing her husband, Elbert Avery at the age of 30.
Blondell was an avid gardener who loved flowers and could make anything grow with her magic green thumb. She loved to cook for her family and also made beautifully detailed and hand crafted afghans, quilts, blankets, dolies, and tablecloths. She loved to watch Alabama Football and cheer for her grandchildren at sporting events. She also never missed the Atlanta Braves and Chipper Jones. Blondell loved music and her favorites were Conway Twitty, Loretta Lynn, and Elvis.
Blondell moved from Donalsonville, Georgia to Ettrick, Virginia with her children in 1959. She had a long career with Brown and Williamson Tobacco Company in Petersburg, Virginia, Relocating to the Macon, Georgia branch in 1982. She retired in 1987 and devoted her life to her family.
Blondell Forrester Avery will be remembered for her feisty spirit, unconditional love hard work ethic, and devotion to her family.
In addition to her parents, Blondell was preceded in death by her children, Lamar Avery and Faye Hill; son in law, Gene Lee; brothers, Marvin, James, Raymond and Edward Forrester; and sister, Willine Rollins.
Her memory will forever be treasured by her children, Harold Avery (Rebecca) of Warner Robins and Anne Lee of Boiling Springs, South Carolina; grandchildren; Tim Lee (Cindy), Camden Lee, Katy Hayes, all of Roebuck, South Carolina, Troy Lee (Melinda), Paul Lee, and Reagan Lee of Cowpens, South Carolina, Jared Hill of Jacksonville, Florida, Jeremy Avery, Laney Avery, Emma Avery, Cooper Avery, all of Warner Robins, Georgia, Ryan Avery (Jodi), Ryan Elizabeth Avery, Reese Avery, Charlie Avery, and Cannon Avery, all of Tampa, Florida, Debbie Edwards (Scott), Clayton Furr (Casey), Braylon Furr, and Bella Furr of Boiling Springs, South Carolina; siblings, Myrtice Farmer, Hilton Forrester, and John Forrester.
Visitation will be Thursday, January 17, 2019 from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 17, 2019 in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home. Afterwards, Blondell Avery will be laid to rest in Parkway Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
The family will accept flowers but those who wish may make a donation in memory of Blondell Forrester Avery to Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home at 686 Jeff Davis Dr, Spartanburg, South Carolina 29303.
