Robert L. Day, Jr., 75, died peacefully at his home on Sunday, July 8, 2007, after a two year battle with cancer.
Mr. Day was born on March 28, 1932 in Macon, Georgia. He spent his childhood in Dames Ferry. With loyalty and honor he served in the United States Navy aboard the Valley Forge during the Korean War. Bob retired from civil service at Robins Air Force Base where he worked in Quality Assurance. Bob loved an adventure, and this was reflected his whole life. Even his job was an adventure, taking him and his family to places all over the world. A humble servant of the Lord, he was an active member of Second Baptist Church and attended the Fisher of Men Sunday School Class. His children and grandchildren loved playing touch football, camping and running road races with Grandpa. Bob was always ready to help, from mowing a neighbor’s yard to going to California to help with The American Red Cross and Disaster Relief. Bob laid a firm foundation for his family to stand on that is present in their lives today. His daughter, Patricia Day Pirkle, his parents, Robert L. Day, Sr. and Grace Young Day, and brothers, William Y. Day and John E. Day, all preceded him in death.
He will be missed by his wife of fifty years, Jeannine Sanchez Day, Warner Robins; his children, Barbara McLaughlin, David and Sande Day, all of Macon; Michael and Allyson Day, Bonaire; his grandchildren, Kyle, Brett and Jessie McLaughlin, Megan, Erin, and Emily Day, and Dominic, Eric, and Simone Day, sisters, Peggy Chancy, Kathleen; Betty Johnston (Ted), Campton, NH; sister-in-law, Pat Belcher, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Tuesday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, July 11, in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home. Private interment will be in Magnolia Park Cemetery.
