Bobbie Gordy, 80, left this world to join her beloved husband of 43 years, Henry “Billy” Gordy in heaven on the evening of Monday, April 30, 2018.
Bobbie was born in Jefferson County, Georgia on September 18, 1937, the daughter of the late Jordan and Eloise Todd Upton. She married her one and only love, Billy Gordy in 1955 and dedicated her life to being a supportive military wife, raising their children, and maintaining the Gordy home. From the time of being a teenager, Bobbie had a deep love for painting and enjoyed teaching art students in Houston and Bibb counties. She also taught in an art studio she built with Billy and the kids at their home in Bonaire.
In 1997, Bobbie and Billy opened up a gift shop called Bobbie’s Gallery on Russell Parkway. She ran it for six months until she fell ill with lung complications. They built a house and moved to Centerville shortly after gaining back her health. Bobbie was a longtime member of First Baptist Church Centerville where she was the Outreach Leader for Stricklen Sunday School Class. She also loved being a member of the Cherokee Rose Garden Club, Cherry Supreme Red Hat (Queen Mother), and the Dogwood Art Association. Aside from painting, she loved decorating, sewing, crocheting, entertaining, and traveling.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Robin Gordy; her great-grandson, Christopher Millet; and her sister, Annette Maxwell.
Her memory will forever be treasured by her loving son, Billy Wayne Gordy (Cindy) of Perry; grandchildren, Ashley M. Millet (Lester) and Billy Gordy; great-grandchildren, James Millet III and Abbie Millet; sister, Doris Web (Gary) of Macon; aunt, Naomi Kitchens of Waynesboro; niece, Gwinnette Tyner of Augusta; and her good friend, Sandy Cofield of Kathleen.
Visitation will be Sunday, May 6, 2018, from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. A funeral service will immediately follow at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home. After the service, Bobbie will be laid to rest in Magnolia Park Cemetery.
