Bobby Edgar Bates

Bobby Bates, 77, entered into rest on Friday, December 31, 2010.

Born on March 12, 1933 in Shelby, Alabama, he proudly served in the U.S. Army. Bobby received a Bachelor's degree from Auburn University and a Master's degree from the University of Georgia, both in Industrial Engineering. He was employed as an industrial engineer at Robins Air Force Base until his retirement after thirty years of loyal and faithful service. He was a Master Mason, a lifetime member of AFA and a volunteer at the Museum of Aviation. An avid fisherman, he was a member of the Robins Anglers Fishing Club. Shirley Hills Baptist Church was his church home. He was predeceased by his wife Lula "Lou" Bates, and parents, Edgar C. Bates and Joyce Davis Bates, and brother, Billy Bates.

His memory will forever be treasured by his step-daughter, Faye Salter (Horace, Fort Valley; step-son, Rusty Taylor (Kathy), Byron; four grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren; brothers, Jerry Bates (Loretta), Bedford, MA and Tommy Bates (Sandy), Fairfax, VA; sister, Beverly Bates Morison, Foley, AL; a number of nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Monday, January 3, 2011 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 4, 2011 in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home, the Reverends Napp Granade and Andy Cook officiating. Interment will follow in Magnolia Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully suggests memorial donations to Keenagers, Shirley Hills Baptist Church, 615 Corder Road, Warner Robins GA 31088.
