Brenda Sue Scurry, 54, formerly of College Park, Georgia, died Friday, May 16, 2014 at the Heart of Georgia Hospice Hospital in Perry, Georgia.
From an early age, Brenda marched to the beat of her own drum. She took great pride in never having to adorn her natural beauty with various chemical products. She appeared regal when she dressed in all white, as she loved to do and it being her favorite color. Brenda never missed an opportunity to bestow upon any listening ear how much she loved her Lord and Savior. She graduated from Westover High School, Albany, Georgia, Class of '77 and attended business school in San Diego, California; however, gainful employment came via the United States Postal Service. Brenda enjoyed her job and could always be found to wear something with the USPS printed on it. She was employed by the USPS for 29 years until she passed away.
Ms. Scurry was preceded in death by her father, Luke Ross and her mother, Minnie Lee Reese Scurry Porter; her brother, Milton Ross; and her stepfather, Willie James Porter.
She is survived by her namesake father, Isaac Scurry of Delray Beach, Florida; sisters, Barbara Reese Johnson (Promas) and Barnie Reese Young, both of Albany, Georgia, Kimberly Porter Ousley (Allie) of Atlanta, Georgia and Dianne Scurry Bowe of Bonaire, Georgia; and her brothers, Alvin Porter (Hattie) and Ira Louis Scurry, both of Albany, Georgia. She also leaves a cherished aunt, Bettye Reese Williams of Thomasville, Georgia. Ms. Scurry leaves to mourn an aunt, Rosa Mae Reese Owens of Moultrie, Georgia, as well as many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
A memorial service to celebrate Brenda's life will be on Saturday, May 24, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at the Hampton Inn & Suites, GALA ROOM, 2628 Dawson Road, Albany, Georgia 31707. Attendees are requested to wear all white.
