Brian Eric Underwood, known to some as “Lil Newk” (56), was born March 8, 1964 as one of five children to the late great William “Pop” and Hazel “Nan” Underwood. Brian gained his wings and joined his beloved parents on February 1, 2021.
Brian was born and raised in Newark, NJ. He attended Madison Avenue Elementary School, 7th Avenue Jr. High School, where he played the clarinet, and Malcolm X Shabazz High School. During his high school years, Brian loved the sport of baseball and played for Newark’s own International Youth Organization, the same team that his father, William, coached. After graduating from Malcolm X Shabazz in 1982, Brian joined the United States Air Force in 1983. Since joining the Air Force, Brian had three permanent duty stations: Hill AFB in Salt Lake City Utah, Hahn AFB in Germany, and his final home, Robins AFB in Warner Robins, GA. After serving nearly 25 years in the Air Force, Brian retired holding the rank of Master Sergeant. After retiring, he remained employed at Robins AFB with Defense Logistics Agency.
Brian was a strong, handsome, and intelligent man. A man who never passed up the opportunity to show off his goofy side.
Brian “Lil Newk” was preceded in death by his parents, William and Hazel Underwood; and great-nephew, Marquise Bradshaw.
Brian’s memory will be cherished and forever remembered by two brothers, David Bradshaw and William Underwood Jr.; one god brother, James Fennell; two sisters, Claudia Bradshaw and Cheryl Underwood; one sister-in-law, Mary Underwood; four nieces, Dionne Bradshaw, Tiffany Bradshaw, Michela Underwood and Malia Underwood; four nephews, Terrell Bradshaw, Larry Williams, Davon Johnson, and Mekhi Underwood; three great-nieces, Aamya Bradshaw, Dasia Bradshaw, and Kaylani Bradshaw; and a host of relatives and friends.
Brian will be missed dearly by all who had the pleasure of crossing his path.
