On Thursday, December 29, 2016, 21 year old Caitlyn Bibb escaped the confines of this earth and passed peacefully away while surrounded by family and loved ones. Born in 1995 to Charlie and Connie Sanders Bibb, Caitlyn grew up here in Warner Robins. She was diagnosed at a young age with Mitochondrial Myopathy, a muscular degenerative disease that caused severe muscular issues and visual impairment. In spite of these adversities, as a student at the Georgia Academy for the Blind, Caitlyn thrived while learning to advocate for herself, to maintain independence, and to turn her disabilities into strengths rather than weaknesses. In May of this year, Caitlyn was able to graduate from high school, receiving her diploma from the Georgia Academy for the Blind just one day before entering the hospital.
Caitlyn exhibited a real joy for life and in addition to time spent with the family she loved, she enjoyed spending time attending various camps, eating Mexican food and drinking plenty of Dr. Pepper! She genuinely enjoyed being with small children and taking care of them; something she was able to do at Southside Baptist Church, where she could often be found rocking children in the nursery. These involvements brought Caitlyn happiness and made her feel like part of a team. She also loved to swim whenever she could. Swimming gave her a feeling of equality because in the water she was able to do the same things that others without her disability could do. As a result of her determination and positive spirit, Caitlyn was a true inspiration to the many people who had the privilege of knowing her.
In addition to her parents, Reverend Charlie and Connie Sanders Bibb, Caitlyn's memory is left to be treasured by her sisters, Chaley Clark and her husband Chris, and Jodie Sumner; her niece and nephew, Kinley and Nolan Clark; her grandparents, Sara Sanders and Robert E. and Jennifer Ann Bibb; as well as aunts and uncles, Amy Jordan, Todd Sanders (Selina), Paula Williams, Robbie Bibb; and numerous cousins.
Caitlyn was preceded in death by her grandfather, James Sanders, and an uncle, David Bibb.
Visitation with Caitlyn's family will be held from 6:00 until 8:00 pm on Sunday evening, January 1, 2017, at McCullough Funeral Home. The funeral service to celebrate her life will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, January 2, at Southside Baptist Church followed by interment at Magnolia Park Cemetery, where Caitlyn will be laid to rest.
