Campbell Edward "Ed" Hilliard

April 4, 1940 — April 5, 2023

Campbell Edward (Ed) Hilliard passed away peacefully surrounded by his family and pastor on Wednesday, April 5, 2023, at Atrium Navicent Hospital in Macon, Georgia.


Ed has been a resident of Warner Robins, Georgia, since 1963. He was born April 4, 1940, in Dodge County Georgia, to parents Sylvester and Katherine Hilliard. He grew up in Rhine, Georgia, graduated from Dodge County High School in Eastman (1958); Middle GA College in 1960; and finished his college education at the University of Georgia in 1961 attaining a Bachelors of Business Degree with Accounting Major. He was an outstanding basketball player in high school and at Middle Georgia College. Ed had a 37 year very successful career at Robins AFB culminating at the GM-15 level in the Comptroller Directorate. His last assignments at Robins were Deputy Comptroller; RAFB Project Officer under Maj. General Rondal Smith. He received the Management Acquisition Professional Certification; Special Acts & Services AF Award; Outstanding Federal Manager Award; AF Outstanding Cost Office; AF Commendation Medal; American Society of Military Comptroller; AF Outstanding Accounting and Finance Officer, and Outstanding Civilian Service. He retired from Robins AFB in 1996. In 2000, Ed retired as a Major in the Air National Guard 2000 as Communication Officer of 202nd Communications Squadron in Macon Ga.


In addition to Ed’s civilian and military careers, he co-owned Hilliard and Collier Income Tax and Accounting business in Warner Robins for 25 plus years. He was a very avid and vocal UGA fan and a UGA season ticket holder for 50 years. Every year at the beginning of football season, the Hilliard van filled with family and friends began their Saturday trip to Athens for tailgating and football games……there were many road trips out of state to UGA games, as well.


Ed was an active member of Central Baptist Church for 40 years and very involved in the Osborne Life Group. He was often referred to as the “Prayer Warrior” of the class.


He was passionate about playing golf and was a former member of Houston Lake Country Club, Southern Hills, and Southern Landings Golf Clubs. He enjoyed playing in many Five Star Celebrity Golf Tournaments sponsored by Robins Financial Credit Union. Ed spent the last 23 years volunteering his professional skills on the Robins Financial Credit Union Board of Directors. He served on and chaired multiple board committees and was current Chairman of the Board. He had previously served as Chairman in 2014-2016; Vice Chairman – 2020-2022, Treasurer 2006-2008, 2014-2016.


Ed is preceded in death by his parents and sister, Sylvia Hilliard Rogers. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Wynanne Polk Hilliard; his daughter, Kimberly Hilliard Sharpe (Mark); and Kelli Hilliard; grandchildren, Jackson and Morgan Sharpe; nephew, Shane Rogers (Donna); and niece, Patricia Rogers Underwood (Terry); great niece, Jessica Rogers Robinson, plus great great nieces, and nephew.


Visitation with Ed's family will be on Friday, April 7, 2023, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home.  The funeral service celebrating his life will be on Saturday, April 8, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of McCullough Funeral Home.  Interment will be private for family only.

The family will accept flowers or donations may be given in memory of Ed Hilliard to Central Baptist Church (Veteran's Memorial Fund) at 1120 Lake Joy Road, Warner Robins, GA 31088.
