Capt Adelbert M. Von Almen, U.S. Navy (Ret.)

March 13, 1926 — September 26, 2014

Adelbert M. Von Almen, 88, passed into the hands of his Lord on Friday, September 26, 2014.

Adelbert was born on March 13, 1926 in Olney, Illinois to the late Otto R. and Grace K. Von Almen. With pride and honor, he served our country as a chaplain in the United States Navy. Adelbert served during both the World War II and Vietnam War and retired with the rank of Captain.

In addition to his military service, he served in several different churches throughout Kentucky, Tennessee, West Virginia and Georgia during his fifty year ministry. Adelbert earned a Master's Degree in Divinity from College of the Bible, Master's Degree in Rehab Counseling from the University of Georgia and an undergraduate degree in English from the University of Michigan.

He was a member of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and was also a Life Member of the Lions Club International and a Mason.

Adelbert was preceded in death by his parents; and siblings, Pauline, Mae, Kenneth and Keith Von Almen.

His memory will forever be treasured by his loving wife of sixty-seven years, Juanita C. Von Almen of Warner Robins; children, Cherry V. Finn of Oakwood, Georgia, David R. Von Almen (Ann) and Sara V. Hebenstreit (Charlie), both of Warner Robins, and Major John M. Von Almen (Marsha) of New Mexico; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a host of adoring nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 30, 2014 at First Christian Church of Warner Robins. The family will receive friends at the church following the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully suggests memorial donations be given In Memory of Adelbert M. Von Almen to First Christian Church Memorial Fund, 100 N. Houston Road, Warner Robins, GA 31093 or to Georgia Lions Lighthouse Foundation, 5582 Peachtree Road, Atlanta, GA 30341.
