Carol Ackerman Brown, 78, of Warner Robins, Georgia, passed away on October 8, 2024. Born on August 2, 1946, in Poughkeepsie, New York, she grew up in Hyde Park, where she graduated from Hyde Park High School in 1964. Carol pursued higher education at a local community college before transferring to Georgia Southern University, where she earned a bachelor's degree in Home Economics in 1968.
During her time at Georgia Southern, Carol met her beloved husband, Barry Lee Brown. In 1968, they were married, beginning a partnership that would last for decades. They initially settled in Byron for two and a half years before making their home in Warner Robins.
Carol worked at the Macon Telegraph in the Classifieds before embracing her role as a devoted homemaker to her family. Once her children were grown, she found fulfillment working for the Houston County Board of Education, where she assisted students in earning their GED.
A dedicated member of Trinity United Methodist Church for 36 years, Carol was active in various ministries and participated in the Becomers Sunday School class. She later became a member of Friendship Baptist Church, where she generously contributed as a librarian, greeter, and served in their outreach program.
Carol's love for her family was boundless; she doted on her children and grandchildren, celebrating each milestone with joy. She had a passion for reading, often found with her daily devotional, and she enjoyed traveling with Barry on many river and ocean cruises, including a memorable trip to Alaska for their 35th anniversary.
Gardening was one of Carol's great joys; she loved flowers and took pride in growing vegetables, often canning her harvest. Christmas was a special time for her, as she delighted in decorating her home for the holidays. She also cherished fishing, spending countless hours in the Adirondacks with Barry, where they returned each year for 42 years to enjoy their favorite pastime and enjoy time with family.
Carol was preceded in death by her parents, Herbert and Louise Ackerman; and siblings, Tom Ackerman and Barbara Ackerman.
Her memory will forever be treasured by her devoted husband, Barry; sons, Barry Lee Brown, Jr. (Anastasia) and David Thomas Brown (Mary); grandchildren, Madeline Brown, Mason Brown, Myles Brown, Makayla Brown, Makenna Brown, Hazel Brown and Mercer Brown; sister, Mary Penn; niece, Tricia Wakeford; nephew, Brett Gahagen; great-nieces, Cassidy Gahagen and Serena Wakeford; and great-nephew, Cooper Gahagen.
Visitation will be Thursday, October 10, 2024, from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at Friendship Baptist Church. A funeral service will be held immediately following at 11:00 a.m. Afterward, Carol will be laid to rest in Magnolia Park Cemetery.
