It is with great sorrow that we announce Carolyn Chester's time with us has ended at 93. Born in Cuthbert, Georgia on September 9, 1921, she later married Eldridge Beverly Chester, Sr. on March 21, 1942. During their 73 years of marriage, she and "Bev" were only separated 8 years. The first four years due to World War II and the last four years due to Bev's passing.
Carolyn was the secretary for Dr. Knight, Dean of Mercer University, until her graduation from Mercer in June of 1945. She then began a lengthy career as an elementary teacher, and later the librarian of Northside High School in Warner Robins. Upon "retirement" she and Bev began the Mossy Creek Barnyard Arts and Crafts Festival. She remained very involved with the show until dementia began to pull her away from us at 93.
Carolyn taught all to have a strong faith in God. She and her husband taught Sunday School and were charter members of Central Baptist Church in Warner Robins. Though burdened with grief, we rejoice in knowing she touched many lives and she will live on in the memories of those she touched. Through our faith in Jesus, we know that she is now reunited with her loved ones.
Carolyn is survived by Bill and Susie Chester, Bill and Julee Torrance, E. B. and Judy Chester, six grandchildren, and eight great grandchildren.
Visitation will be Thursday, August 27, 2015 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 28, 2015 in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home. Following the service, Mrs. Chester will be laid to rest in Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
The family will accept flowers or donations may be given in memory of Carolyn Chester to Heart of Georgia Hospice, 103 Westridge Dr. Warner Robins, Ga. 31088.
