Carolyn Franklin Stewart

Carolyn F. Stewart, 85, passed away on Monday, October 27, 2014 after a brief illness. She was born in Ellaville, Georgia, on October 21, 1929. She played basketball for and was a graduate of Schley County High School and Georgia Southwestern College. She married James E. Stewart, Jr., also of Ellaville and relocated to Warner Robins after the births of their two sons. She returned to college at Georgia State College for Women to earn a degree in early childhood education. Carolyn then taught in the Houston County School System for more than thirty years. She was one of the teachers selected to form the Focus Program for gifted students after completing post graduate work at University of Georgia. She taught in Focus until her retirement. She and Jim were founding members of Northview United Methodist Church where she held many offices over the years including chairman of the church's board. She and Jim had been married for 63 years at the time of his passing in 2011.

She is survived by her sons, Mike Stewart and his wife Jeanette of Hickory, North Carolina and Frank Stewart of Los Angeles, California; grandchildren, Brian Stewart and his wife Lee of Cumming, Georgia, and Michael Stewart and his wife Susan of Lincolnton, North Carolina; and three lovely great-grandchildren, Bradley, Sullivan, and Clayton. She was also devoted to her nieces and nephews, her many friends and the other educators and students she knew over a lifetime of teaching.

Visitation will be Wednesday, October 29, 2014 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 30, 2014 at Northview United Methodist Church with interment following at 3:00 p.m. in Ellaville City Cemetery.
