Carrie Dominy, 80, entered into rest on Monday, July 10, 2023.
Carrie was born on March 23, 1943, in Dublin, Georgia, the tenth child of the late Worthn and Claudia Foskey. She attended East Laurens High School and went on to marry her husband, Carl, on June 12, 1959, at age 16. She worked at J.P. Steven’s woolen mill for several years, at which time the family moved from Macon to Centerville, Georgia so that her girls could attend a private Speech and Hearing School. Here, she attended nursing school and then became a full-time LPN at Houston Medical Center for many years until she retired. Carrie was always very active at the Centerville United Methodist Church and started the Crisis Closet ministry to provide clothing to those in need. Other notable achievements include being a member of the Red Hatters and community volunteering, where she was named by WMAZ “From the Heart Volunteer of the Year”. One can observe from the accomplishments of her children, her extensive list of awards, and her years of service to her church and community, that Carrie was a remarkable lady. Carrie was a silent force who was never out-front making speeches or calling attention to herself. Her countless hours of giving and work have made the city of Centerville a more organized and aesthetic community. In her free time, she was very involved with coaching her girls’ softball teams when they were growing up. She loved being a grandmother to her beautiful grandchildren and taking short trips with her friends.
In addition to her parents, Carrie was preceded in death by her husband, Carl M. Dominy and siblings, Cleveland Jim Foskey, Booth Foskey, Eddie Foskey, Clifford Foskey, Etta Mae Scott, Eugene Foskey, Nettie Dell Johnson, and Everette Foskey.
Her memory will forever be treasured by her children, Karen Matson (Charles), Robin Craig (Rob), Dell Burgess (Jeff); grandchildren, Janna Matson, Sam Matson (Kelsea), Max Burgess (Kaitlin), Chase Burgess (Jacob), Hannah Burgess, Myles Craig, Callen Craig, Lauren Craig; and sister, Vera Canan; along with many other loving family members and friends.
Visitation will be Friday, July 14, 2023, from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. A funeral service will immediately follow at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home. Afterward, Carrie will be laid to rest in Marie Baptist Church Cemetery in Dublin, Georgia.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully suggests memorial donations be given in memory of Carrie Dominy to The Ronald McDonald House, Heart of Georgia Hospice, or your charity of choice.
