Carter was raised in Warner Robins, and was the son of Sadie Carter Gilreath and the late Thomas Edwin Gilreath. He graduated from Northside High School in Warner Robins in 1976.

He always had a ready smile and his laughter was genuine and contagious. He had a wonderful sense of humor, and was highly respected by all that knew him. Words could never describe the loss of Carter by his family and friends and those whose lives he touched. He will forever be in our hearts.
