Cecil "Tony" Anthony Hinnant

A dedicated teacher, Assistant Principal, Principal, and former Superintendent, Cecil Anthony “Tony” Hinnant passed away at his residence in Warner Robins, on Sunday, May 16, 2021. He was 76 years old. Tony was known throughout his career as a devoted, enthusiastic, collaborative, and innovative educator. He will be remembered by many for the substantial impact he made in the lives of his students, teachers, colleagues, and friends in the community.

Tony was born in Jacksonville, Florida, on March 18, 1945, and his family moved to Perry, Georgia, in 1962. Tony graduated from Perry High School in 1963 and received his Undergraduate Degree in Business Education from Georgia Southwestern College. He went on to earn his Master's Degree in Education from Georgia State University.

In 1968, Tony began his career at Warner Robins High School where he taught typing, bookkeeping, and other business courses. He served as the Assistant Principal of Warner Robins High School then Principal of Warner Robins High School from 1982-1992. Tony served the last six years of his career in education as the Superintendent of the Houston County School System and retired in 1998. After retirement, he built and remodeled homes in Houston County while enjoying weekends at his home on Lake Sinclair.

His parents, James Thomas and Helen Cummings Hinnant, as well as his brother, Edwin Hinnant, preceded Tony in death.

Tony is survived by his two sons, David Shannon Hinnant (Rachel) of Fairfax, Virginia; and Jonathan Blake Hinnant (Laurie) of Fountain Valley, California; grandchildren, Jonathan D. Hinnant (Madi), Whitney Hinnant Boes (Steven), Amy Erica Hinnant, and Cadence Hinnant, all of whom made him a very proud grandfather; his former wife and forever friend, Sherin Cook Hinnant; step-daughter, Erin Johnson Fraley (Adam); and his step-grandchildren, Joshua and Ashlyn.

The memorial service celebrating Tony’s life will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 28, 2021, at McCullough Funeral Home. A reception will immediately follow at the Farmhouse at McCullough, located directly behind McCullough Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully suggests memorial donations be given in memory of Cecil Anthony “Tony” Hinnant to the Georgia Sheriffs’ Youth Homes, Attention: Development Division, 3000 Highway 42 N, McDonough, Georgia 30253.
