Charles ''Bud'' Haberkam

May 3, 1931 — July 15, 2003

Perry, GA – Mr. Charles “Bud” Haberkam, 72, passed away at home on Tuesday, July 15, 2003. Memorial services will be held on Thursday, July 17 at 3:00pm at Sandy Valley Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to the Hope Children’s Home, 11415 Hope International Drive, Tampa, FL, 33625 or Vista Care Foundation, 750 Baconsfield Drive, Macon, GA, 31211.

Mr. Haberkam was born May 3, 1931 in Baltimore, Maryland and attended Patterson High School in Baltimore. He previously resided in Dundalk and Berlin, MD and had been a resident of Perry, GA for the past 11 years. He was a veteran of the United States Army, having served during the Korean Conflict and was retired from Bethlehem Steel (Sparrow’s Point) where he had been a Flange Mill foreman. He was a member of the American Legion – Post 24, and VFW Posts in both Georgia and Maryland. Mr. Haberkam had a great love of his family and, with his wife, he enjoyed taking many trips to show off their children when they were young. He loved to fish with his sons on the Chesapeake Bay and weekend boating with family at Ocean City, MD. He enjoyed working with wood and was an avid car enthusiast. Mr. Haberkam had been a member of the Eastern Shore Car Club and the Middle Georgia Region Antique Car Club. He enjoyed attending antique car shows and particularly enjoyed fixing up old cars, doing all the work himself. In fact, he was a great handyman, no matter what sort of project. Together with his wife, Christine (Tina), he also was blessed to be able to enjoy many friends from all over the country. He was a member of Sandy Valley Baptist Church and also attended First Christian Church in Perry. A devoted husband and beloved father, Mr. Haberkam will be sorely missed.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Andrew and Dora Frances Haberkam, and two sisters Josie Barbour and Marie Lindeman.

Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Christine “Tina” Karcich Haberkam, Perry, GA; son, Charles “Chip” Haberkam, Jr. (wife Lynne), Sarasota, FL; daughter, Gale Clarke (husband, Joe), Baltimore; daughter, Lynn Haberkam, Perry, GA; son, David Haberkam (wife Gayle), Hot Springs, MT; granddaughter, Erin Gray Hottle, Hagerstown, MD; grandsons, Ryan Clarke, Eric Clarke, Bradley Haberkam, and Micah Haberkam; great-grandson, Tyler Hottle; great-granddaughter, Abigail Hottle; two sisters, Margaret Hamrick, and Anna Holthaus, both of Baltimore; and numerous nieces and nephews.
