Charles Richard "Dick" Burch, Sr., a beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away at Houston Medical Center on Sunday, June 30, 2024. He was 71 years old.
Dick was born on December 20, 1952, in Vidalia, Georgia. He was the son of the late Cal and Jean Burch. In addition to his parents, Dick was preceded in death by his sister, Gloria Murphy.
After graduating from Vidalia High School, Dick pursued his education at South Georgia State College. He found his calling in law enforcement and served with distinction in the police departments of Vidalia and Warner Robins. In the 1980s, he transitioned to a career at Robins Air Force Base, retiring in 2012. Not one to slow down, Dick dedicated over two decades to the Houston County Sheriff's Office Reserve Unit, a role he embraced with passion and dedication.
His favorite pastimes included exploring the country with his beloved wife, Shirley, and indulging in outdoor pursuits such as hunting and skeet shooting. He also showcased his talents as a craftsman and handyman and his skills in-turn benefited his family and community alike. Of the Christian faith, Dick regularly attended Friendship Baptist Church in Warner Robins.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 47 years, Shirley Burch of Warner Robins; his loving daughter Tabitha Berry (Everett) of Mesquite, TX, and son, Charles "Richie" Burch, Jr. (Alina) of Warner Robins; grandchildren, Elaina Berry of Dallas, TX, and Brian Berry of Prosper, TX; as well as several nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.
Dick was loved, admired, and respected by countless members of the community and will be greatly missed by all—especially his family.
Visitation will be Sunday, July 7, 2024, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, July 8, 2024, in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home. Charles Richard “Dick” Burch, Sr. will be laid to rest in Durden Cemetery, in Soperton, Georgia.
