Charles L. Chapman, Jr.

Charles L. Chapman, Jr., 89, entered into rest on Monday, January 22, 2024. 

Charles was born on October 23, 1934, in Macon, Georgia to the late Charles L. Chapman, Sr. and Ruby Welch Chapman. He graduated from Lanier High School in Macon, University of South Carolina with his bachelor's degree, and University of Virginia with his master’s degree. Charles honorably served as a Captain in the United States Air Force. He went on to work in civil service and retired as the chief of engineering on Robins Air Force Base. A man of faith, Charles was a faithful member of Trinity United Methodist in the Asbury Sunday School Class and was a member of The Gideons International. He was also a member of the Warner Robins Noon Optimist Club, where he met every Thursday at Ole Times Country Buffet. Charles often volunteered to coach youth sports which included Warner Robins Recreation, Warner Robins Little League, and Central Baptist youth sports, where he coached the 1979 Royal Ambassador Georgia state champions. He could also be found volunteering for the Houston County Board of Education at Pearl Stephens Elementary, where he read to the children weekly. Years after his retirement, Charles enjoyed a weekly game of golf. His presence will be deeply missed by those he loved. 

In addition to his parents, Charles was preceded in death by his sister, Dorothy Allan. 

His memory will forever be treasured by his beloved wife, Mildred Clance Chapman; children, Steve Chapman (Autumn), and Cheryl Chapman-Minor (Lee); grandchildren, William Minor (Erin), Jordan Minor, and Millie Gray Chapman; great-grandchild, Emmie-Blake Minor; nieces and nephews, Mike Clance (Gina), Michele Wilson (Eric), Brett McCallister (John), and Edward Allan (Nicky) along with many other loving family members and friends. 

Visitation will be Thursday, January 25, 2024, from 12:30 p.m. until 1:30 p.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church, with the funeral service to immediately following at 2:00 p.m. Afterward, Charles will be laid to rest in Magnolia Park Cemetery.  

The family will accept flowers or donations may be given in memory of Charles Chapman, Jr. to The Gideons International, Houston North Camp, P.O. Box 537, Warner Robins, GA, 31099.
