Charles William Ray

Bonaire – Charles W. "Bill" Ray, 72, entered into rest on April 11, 2010.

Mr. Ray was born April 8, 1938 in Lawrenceburg, Tennessee. Bill was a graduate of Lawrence County High School and Tennessee Tech, Cookeville, Tennessee. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps before embarking on a successful career with Civil Service, beginning March 1969 in Norfolk, Virginia and retired at Robins AFB, as an Engineer with Special Projects in May 2008. He was a member of Southside Baptist Church and the Sonshine Gang Sunday School Class. His parents, Garland Groves Ray and Martha Hardin Ray, preceded him in death.

Bill enjoyed many things in life but his heart was consumed with the love of Jesus and people. Bill, a tireless community servant was a former Commander of Awanas, and was extremely active in the Celebrate Recovery Program at Southside Baptist Church. He proudly dedicated many hours of his life to the local Alcoholics Anonymous Organization where he recently celebrated twenty five years of sobriety.

His memory will forever be treasured by his loving wife of nineteen years, Beverly Jean Ray, Bonaire; children, Cheryl Rochelle, Norfolk, VA; Christiana Sly (Mark), Cochran; Brandi Handley (Mike), Bonaire; Blake Gebhardt (Christa), Springfield, IL; sister, Cissy Ray Moss, Pulaski, TN; brothers, David Ray, Lawrenceburg, TN; Steve Nutt, Murfreesboro, TN; Gary Nutt, Lawrenceburg, TN, step-mother Lois Ray, Lawrenceburg, TN; nine grand-children, Chrissie Lazano, Avery and Ayden Sly, Cali Handley, Delaney, Sophie, Max, and Owen Gebhardt, numerous nieces and nephews, his loyal dog, Razor and so many other loving relatives and special friends.

Visitation will be Wednesday, April 14 from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, April 15, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. in Southside Baptist Church. In addition, a Memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 17, 2010 at Lawrenceburg Memorial Gardens, Lawrenceburg, TN. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully suggests memorial donations to Celebrate Recovery at Southside Baptist Church, 1040 S. Houston Lake Road, Warner Robins, GA 31088; Alcoholics Anonymous (The Young Peoples Group), 1001 Carl Vinson Parkway, Centerville, GA 31028, or Save-A-Life Ministries, 112 Pierce Ave, Macon, GA 31204.
