Charlyne Mairesse Mixon

January 5, 1929 — March 2, 2025

Warner Robins

Charlyne Mairesse Mixon, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and cherished friend, passed away on Sunday, March 2, 2025, at the age of 96.

Born on January 5, 1929, in Denain, France, a small town near the Belgium border, Charlyne was the daughter of the late Arthur and Augusta Hotlart Mairesse. Her early years were marked by courage while living through the German Nazi occupation of France during World War II. During that time, Charlyne risked her own safety by crossing into Belgium to obtain food supplies on the black market. Luckily, she always returned unharmed and was able to help ensure her family had what they needed to survive.

A few years later, Charlyne was sent to Switzerland to further her education, graduating high school at the remarkable age of 14. She then moved to Paris with her family and attended business school. Charlyne began her career working for the French Government in the Ministry of Information. It was during that time she met her first husband, Dr. J.M. Crooms of Milledgeville, Georgia. In 1946, at the age of 17, Charlyne moved to the United States and made her home with her husband and three children in Cochran, Georgia. A few years later she moved to Macon, Georgia, where Charlyne proudly became a U.S. citizen, receiving her citizenship papers during a ceremony and remarked with joy, “After all these years, I finally made it.”

Later in life, she remarried her third husband, Daniel Mixon, and together they resided in Milledgeville until his passing in 2021. A year later, Charlyne moved to an assisted living facility in Warner Robins, where she spent her final years surrounded by love and care.

Charlyne’s memory will forever be treasured by her children, Arlette (Mike) of Jasper, Jimmy (Nancy) of Milledgeville, and Michael (Catherine) of Bonaire. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.

A memorial gathering for family and friends will be held on Saturday, March 22, 2025, from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home, followed by a memorial service at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home. Charlyne Mairesse Mixon will be laid to rest privately.
