Clara Jo Winberg, 83, entered into rest on Monday, June 24, 2024.
Clara was born on April 25, 1941, in Elkins, West Virginia to the late Henry and Sarah Harrison. Her family relocated to Detroit, Michigan where she would grow up and graduate from high school in 1959. From there, she married and started a family with her sweetheart, Moe. She was a longtime homemaker to their four daughters, but worked for a time as the site manager at a local senior activities center out of Belleville, Michigan. One of the highlights of her time there was taking a group excursion to Alaska. In the early 90s, the family would relocate to Centerville, Georgia. Here she became a full-time grandma, helping her children raise their children. Summers were spent with her husband returning to Michigan, particularly Mackinac Island, where Clara worked as a cook and Moe took care of the horses. A spiritual Christian woman, she was a longtime faithful member of Westminster Presbyterian in Warner Robins.
Clara was best described as having a kindness and compassion for others that was unmatched, always full of life and vigor. She was a happy, adventurous person who loved her family, and they truly loved her. Her grandchildren loved hearing her stories and learning from her and her example. In her free time, she enjoyed decorating, watching HGTV, reading, coloring adult coloring books, and her daily conversations with her nieces in Michigan. Most of all, she enjoyed being with her family. She cherished all her grandkids and couldn’t wait to hear about their next adventure. Her sweet countenance will be deeply missed by those she held dear.
In addition to her parents, Clara was preceded in death by her husband, James “Moe” Douglas Winberg, her twin sister, Cora Lee Fasce, and sister, Sarah Reed.
Her memory will forever be treasured by her daughters, Julie Legg of Perry, Karen Lee of Warner Robins, Sally Dougherty (Jeff) of Bonaire, and Jennifer Avery (Cliff); grandchildren, Jennifer Graff (Josh), John Legg (Jennifer Andrela), Katie Skiera (Phil), James Caruana, Jason Lee, Alexis Porter, Heather Dougherty, Dylan Lamb, and Summer Dougherty; great-grandchildren, Audrey Skiera, Noland Skiera, Ellie Graff, and Luca Graff; along with nieces and nephew, Christine Fasce, Kathleen Fasce, and Mark Reed.
Visitation will be Friday, June 28, 2024, from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. A funeral service will immediately follow at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home. Later, Clara will be laid to rest in Parkway Memorial Gardens.
