In the early morning hours of Friday, June 16, 2017, Gene Mituch, 82, passed away peacefully.
Gene was born on December 27, 1934 in New Milford, New Jersey to the late Eugene P. and Anna Huljack Mittuch. After twenty-one years of dedicated service, Gene retired from the United States Air Force as a Chief Master Sergeant on October 31, 1972; his successful career started as a crew chief and finished as a maintenance superintendent. Highlights of his illustrious career include the air-sea mission while stationed at Tyndall AFB, Florida, a tour in South Korea, a tour in Africa in support of the Sudan conflict, and intense involvement in Linebacker I and Linebacker II during Viet Nam War while stationed at Guam.
Upon retirement from the military, Gene became an evolving entrepreneur in Byron by first developing a mobile home park and concluding with founding a housing development and becoming a licensed builder.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, USAF Colonel Stephen Mittuch.
His memory will forever be treasured by his loving wife, Eileen Evans Mittuch; daughter, Anna Mittuch Lowery (Harold); son, Col. Eugene Mittuch, USAF (Ret.) (Stephanie); daughter-in-law, Cynthia Mittuch; daughter, Patricia Mittuch Compton (Jason); seven grandsons, and one granddaughter.
Visitation with Gene's family will be Tuesday, June 20, 2017 from 9:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. A graveside service will follow at 12:00 p.m. at Andersonville National Cemetery where Gene will be laid to rest. Gene's daughter-in-law, Chaplain Cynthia Mittuch will officiate.
