Chip Malone, known to many as 'Coach,' passed into the hands of his Lord on Saturday, October 3, 2015 after a long and brave battle with heart disease.
Born on October 10, 1955 in Mound Bayou, Mississippi, Chip was of the Baptist faith. He graduated from Jackson State University with a Bachelor's Degree in Physical Science and moved to the Warner Robins Area to pursue a teaching and coaching career. Chip lived most of his life there. In 2009, he retired as head coach of the Warner Robins High School Demons Boys' Varsity Basketball team.
In the last years of his coaching career, Coach Malone learned that he would need a heart transplant. He received his new heart in 2010 and embraced his God-given 'second chance' at life. Chip used his 'second chance' by devoting himself to Heart Disease Awareness and was the founder of 'Chip 'N Away at Heart Disease.' Whether it was on or off the court, he will be remembered by all who knew him as wonderful mentor to his students, coaches, family, and friends, and they will carry his lessons in basketball, as well as his lessons in life with them forever.
His parents, Willie Lawrence and Lillie Ruth White Malone, preceded him in death.
Coach leaves behind his memory with his devoted wife of 30 years, Cynthia Malone of Bonaire; beautiful daughters, Lauriel Malone and Crystal Elliott (Allen), both of Atlanta; brother, Winthrop "Butch" Malone (Brenda) of Brentwood, Tennessee; mother-in-law, Mrs. Willie Wiley of Warner Robins; two handsome nephews; and a host of other family and friends.
Visitation will be Thursday, October 8, 2015, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. The Home Going Celebration will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 9, 2015 at New Hope International, Bishop Jeff Poole officiating. Following the service, Coach Malone will be laid to rest in Parkway Memorial Gardens. The Malone Family asks that any former player that Chip coached on any level who is attending the funeral to wear a plain white T-shirt.
Flowers will be accepted or donations may be given in memory of Coach Chip Malone to Chip 'N Away at Heart Disease, P.O. Box 9137, Warner Robins, GA 31095.
