Col James "Jim" Penn, 79, entered into rest on Thursday, July 29, 2010.
A resident of Warner Robins since 1977, Mr. Penn was born on April 24, 1931, in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. He graduated from the University of Minnesota, was a member of the Chi Phi Fraternity, and received his Bachelors Degree in Aeronautical Engineering in 1953. He later earned his Masters from Mankato State University, Minnesota, in 1982. With great pride and honor, he was commissioned into the United States Air Force in 1953 and retired in 1985 as a Colonel. After his distinguished military career, he was employed by the Air Force Reserve Command as a Civil Engineering Supervisor and retired in 1994.
Jim's lifetime memberships included The Reserve Officers Associations (ROA), The Military Officers Association of America (MOAA), where he was the 1990 Middle Georgia Chapter President and 1994 State of Georgia President. Other club memberships include The Georgia Federal/Military Retiree Coalition (GFMC), where he was President in 2002, the Robins Air Force Base Officers Club and Pine Oaks Golf Club. His parents, Peter John Penn and Hope Flemming Penn, preceded him in death.
His memory will forever be treasured by his loving wife of fifty-seven years, Terril Kruse Penn; children, Toni Dauwalter (Kevin), Chanhassen, MN, Richard Penn (Karyn), Shorewood, MN, Tracy Dauwalter (Richard), Edina, MO, and Shelley Pearson (John), Grand Rapids, MN; and nine grandchildren.
Visitation will be Monday, August 9, 2010, from 3:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. with a memorial service to follow at 4:00 p.m. in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home with full military honors, Chaplain Robert Kerr officiating. Burial will be private. Flowers will be accepted, or memorial donations made to the Museum of Aviation, P.O. Box 2469, Warner Robins GA 31088.
