Colonel Marc L. Drinkhahn (Ret)

December 23, 1945 — May 31, 2005

Colonel (Ret.) Marc L. Drinkhahn, 59, passed away Tuesday, May 31, 2005 at Houston Medical Center. Visitation will be Thursday evening from 6:00-8:00pm at McCullough Funeral Home. Funeral services will be on Monday, June 6th, at Holy Ghost Lutheran Church, Monroe, Michigan, with burial in Gethsemane Cemetery with full military honors. Donations may be made to Mount Calvary Lutheran Church 336 Carl Vison Parkway Warner Robins, Georgia 31088.
Colonel Drinkhahn was born in Monroe, Michigan, to the late Ernest and Lucy Drinkhahn. He received a BS degree from New Mexico Highlands University and a Master’s Degree from Georgia College.
He served in the United States Air Force 28 years. He was a former base commander at Carswell AFB, Fort Worth, Texas; Wing Commander at Grissom AFB, Peru, Indiana; Professor of Aerospace Studies at Clemson University; the Air Refueling Wing (Provisional) Commander at Seeb, Oman, during Operations Desert Shield/Desert Storm, and a Vietnam veteran.
Colonel Drinkhahn was a Command Pilot with more than 3000 flying hours in the T-37, C-7A, the KC-135, and the B-52.
His military awards and decorations include the Legion of Merit with two Oak leaf clusters, the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Meritorious Service Medal with four Oak leaf clusters, the Air Medal with two Oak leaf clusters, and the Air Force Commendation Medal.
Colonel Drinkhahn was an elder at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church, the Vice-president of the Military Officers Association of America, a life member of the Air Force Association, a member of the Landings Golf Club, and a Daedalian. He was a Program Director at Modern Technology Corporation.
Survivors include his wife Jo Arley H. Drinkhahn, Warner Robins; son, Matthew E. Drinkhahn, Decatur, Georgia; brothers, Don Drinkhahn, Miami, Florida; Paul T. Drinkhahn, Plymouth, Michigan; an aunt, Helen Branion, Dearborn, Michigan; cousins Dave and Karen Spicer of Monroe, Michigan.
